She was born July 3, 1963 at Fort Benning, GA, daughter of Wilkie and Grace Marshall Smith and was a 1980 graduate of Kendrick High School. She attended Mercer University, received a BS degree from Columbus State University in 1986. She taught in several school districts in Georgia and in South Girard Middle School in Phenix City. She was of the Pentecostal faith. Surviving is a sister, LaVeta J Marshall of Columbus; a niece, LaVeta Bene Marshall of Columbus, seven aunts, Ollie Taylor of Calera, AL, Patrick Diane (Emmett) Mack of Columbus, Adrene (Calvin) Lewis, Union City, GA, Aretha Marshall of Boynton Beach, FL, Elizabeth Nunnally of Columbus, Elmira (George) Hall of Sanford, FL and Ollie Johnson of Columbus; an uncle, Clinton Summers, Colorado Springs, CO. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Progressive Funeral Home. She will be cremated.

Fannie Mae Howe Daniels, of Oglethorpe, GA, who died February 10, 2005, was born June 28, 1935 in Macon County, GA, daughter of Jessie and Samantha Worthy Howe. She was a member of Turner Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, and later joined the Lula Chapel Primitive Chapel Primitive Baptist Church and currently was a member of Zion Temple in Oglethorpe. She and J. D. Daniels were married on February 10, 1951. One son, Willie J Daniels and two grandchildren, Kimberly Turner and Otis Daniels, preceded her in death. Six siblings, Viola Butts, Jessie Howe, Jr., Ada Jones, Milton Howe, Katie Mae Straighhome and Willie David Mathis, preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband; her children, O. C (Dianne) Daniels and larry (Janice) Daniels, all of Oglethorpe, Emma Rae Rumph of Fort Valley, Jimmy Lee (Thelma) Daniels of Oglethorpe, Linda Smith (Leon) Butler and Dangle Colbert of Montezuma; daughter in law, Barbara daniels; siblings, Eva Mae Wesley of Atlanta and George Howe of California; eighteen grandchildren, including Michael Brown of Perry; fourteen great grandchildren.

A Leslie man apparently drowned in a swimming pool Monday at Fort Valley State College after he hit his chin on the side of the pool, Agnes Stewart of the college public relations department said. Preliminary reports show Felder Gene Daniels, Jr., 19, of Leslie, dead as a result of an accidental drowning. An autopsy was performed at the Macon Crime Lab, Ms Stewart said. Ms Stewart quoted campus safety official Oris Bryant as saying Daniels ˘had a bruise under his chin and they believe he was probably climbing out of the pool and his hand slipped, causing him to hit his chin on the side of the pool. He was unconscious when he entered the water. Two lifeguards were on duty at the time and according to Ms Stewart, tried to ive Daniels. The incident occurred during a recreational swimming period in which about twenty-five other students were participating, she said. The accident occurred about 8:40 p.m. Monday, she added. Ms Stewart said an investigation is continuing by campus safety. She added the pool has been closed and will remain closed until the investion is completed. A memorial service was held for Daniels on campus at 10 a.m. Thursday, she said. Local funeral services for Mr. Daniels are planned Saturday at 2 p.m. at Daniel Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Ronnie Mathis officiating with burial in Eastview Cemetery. Mr.. Daniel was a recent graduate of Sumter County Comprehensive High School and was currently attending Fort Valley State College in Fort Valley. Survivors include his parents, Felder and Loretta Daniels of Americus, two sisters, Stephanie Daniels and Kasanya Daniels of Americus, a brother, Kenneth Daniels of Americus; a grandmother, Mrs. Jessie Bell Ladd of Americus; a grandfather, Doss Ladd Jr of Americus.
