Funeral services will be held at noon, St Benedict The Moor Catholic Church, with Father Donatus C Mgbajuo officiating. Burial will be in the Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. He was born December 1, 1927 in Columbus, son of Lawrence Jerry Lane Sr and the late Saide Ross Lane. He was a 1945 graduate of spencer High School and retired from Civil Service, Transportation Motor Pool at Fort Benning, GA, with over 31 years service. He was also employed as a patient care assistant at the Bradley Center and was an attendant at Progressive Funeral Home. He was a member of St Benedict The Moor Catholic Church and was a US Army veteran of WW II. He was preceded in death by a sister, mary Lane Shaw. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mrs Ida Ruth Lane; 5 children, Lawrence Antone (Marilyn) Lane of Birmingham, AL, Major (retired) Deborah Yvonne Lane of San Antonio, TX, Rhonda L Lane of Detroit, MI, Ernesto Keith (Andrea) Lane of Columbus; 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; 3 nieces, Betty Jean (Joseph) Davis, Maryanne Andrews, and Sharon Green Hackey; a nephew, Hiawatha "Bubba' Green JR.

She was born Novemer 9, 1903 in Buena Vista, daughter of Ike Mathis and Mrs Florence McKenzie Mathis, 5th of 9 children. (4 children were born in the late 1800's and 4 were born in the early 1900's) She completed the 10th grade in Marion County, GA and graduated from Fort Valley Normal Industrial School. She earned a BS Degree in Early Childhood Education from Fort Valley State University. and earned a Masters of Science Degree in Elementary and Middle Grade Education from New York University. She married 4 times and has 4 sons and 2 deceased sons. Ruben Woods Jr and Robert Morris preceded her in death. Survivors include Walter Elijah of Buena Vista, Charlie (Clara) Matthews of Buena Vista, Felton Toombs of Harlem, NY and Charlie King of Savannah, GA. a sister, Mrs FLorence Elizabeth Washington of Buena Vista; daughter in law, Minnie Woods of Buena Vista; 4 grandchildren, Wayne Woods of Buena Vista, Mrs Sonja (Kenneth) Matthews-Coaxum of Midland, GA, Mrs Felicia (Michael Pickney) Matthews of Buena VIsta and Eric Forehand of Buena Vista; a granddaughter, Sharonda Wooden McNeill preceded her in death. 5 great grandchildren, DeShon McNeill of Fort Valley, Sharon Woods of Butler, GA, Trenton Matthews of Buena Vista, Darrien Woods of Butler, GA and Blaze Coaxum of Midland; She taught school for 37 years and served as a Principal. She was born july 7, 1929 in Omaha, GA, daughter of the late Stonewall Jackson Sr and Lillie A Jackson. She was a memberof Friendship Baptist Church for over 50 years and was retired from Fort Benning Officers Golf Club and Military Housing. After retiring, she was employed with Columbus Regional Healthcare at the Ronald McDonald House. She was preceded in death by an infant son, a sister, Mary Pearl Jernigan; 2 brothers, Stonewall Jackson Jr and James Jackson. Survivors include her children, Lillie B King, Reverend Carlus (Valarie) Jackson, Linda (Elijah) Rodgers and Eric (Linda) Lanier, all of Columbus; 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs Ethel Stewart; 2 brothers, Burton Jackson and Nelson T Jackson, all of Columbus; a brother in law, J W Jernigan.
