Mrs Eliza Louise Wise Maddox, 90, of Columbus, GA, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Vista Care at Franciscan Woods in Columbus. She was born August 7, 1917 in Ocala, FL, daughter of Mary Wise and Charles H Davis. In 1934 she was a graduate of Howard Academy in Ocala and earned a music scholarship to Florida Normal and Collegiate Institute in St Augustine, FL, graduating in 1936. She earned her BS Degree from Fort Valley State Collegein 1950 and her Master Degree from Atlanta University. She taught school at Radcliff Elementary and J D Davis, where in 1967 she was awarded Teacher of the Year. She was an Assistant Principal at Chattahoochee County Industrial High School and Principal of Second Avenue Elementary School. She and her husband, Arthur Maddox assisted in the founding of St Benedict of the Moor Catholic Church. Survivors include 2 daughters, Betty J (Clarence) Chandler of Atlanta, GA and Emma J Anekwe of Columbus; 4 grandchildren, Karla R (Edward) Birt, Juan A Chandler, Ejinkonye Anekwee and Obiora N Anekwe; 2 great grandchildren, Steven Birt and Sidney Birt; cousins, Cecelia Hayes, Abraham Isham and Alberta Isham. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at St Benedict Catholic Church. Father Paul T Brick will officiate. Burial will be in the Main Post Cemetery at Fort Benning, GA.
