He was the 1st African American to be employed in the Atlanta Fire Department during the 1960's. He was employed as an Associate Dirctor at Total Systems and was a member of Jehovah Witnesses. He was a US Air Foce veteran during the Vietnam War. Survivors include his mother; his wife, Mrs Charlene Ellington Odom of Columbus; a son, Michael T Odom of Columbus; 2 daughters, Aprile (Jon)Newsome of Lawrenceville, GA and R Danyielle Odom of Las Vegas, NV; 3 grandchildren, Teylor, Sydnee and Giovanni Newsome; a sister, Lynn Jones of Atlanta; his mother in law, Mrs Dora L Ellington of Columbus.
