He was a 1966 graduate of C L Harper High School in Atlanta and earned a BA Degree from Mercer University. He was the 1st African American to be employed in the Atlanta Fire Department during the 1960's. He was employed as an Associate Dirctor at Total Systems and was a member of Jehovah Witnesses. He was a US Air Foce veteran during the Vietnam War. Survivors include his mother; his wife, Mrs Charlene Ellington Odom of Columbus; a son, Michael T Odom of Columbus; 2 daughters, Aprile (Jon)Newsome of Lawrenceville, GA and R Danyielle Odom of Las Vegas, NV; 3 grandchildren, Teylor, Sydnee and Giovanni Newsome; a sister, Lynn Jones of Atlanta; his mother in law, Mrs Dora L Ellington of Columbus.
